The Creative Industries Faculty of Stirling High School is a forward looking, industry-focused faculty including the Music, Art & Design and Health & Food Technology Departments.
We are committed to providing a wide range of learning experiences that prepare pupils progressively for future pathways within our school, into education beyond school and towards the world of work.
We value the impact that extra curricular experiences have on pupils' learning and personal development and offer a wide range of clubs, activities, workshops, performances and exhibition opportunities to celebrate the fantastic talents of our school community.
The Creative industries faculty places creativity at the heart of our practice and in learners’ experiences. We view creativity as a way of thinking that, although is very important within the arts, transcends cultural activities and gives pupils a ‘toolkit’ for approaching challenges in life and learning. Creativity has been identified globally as a key transferable skill for the future that will be essential in the workforce as we enter the age of artificial intelligence implementation and in this context we promote creativity as core purpose within the wider curriculum, not an enrichment. This is evidenced in curricular experiences as:
Developing trusting, non-judgmental and inclusive classroom cultures in which time for reflection and evaluation underpins projects and tasks
Encouraging problem-solving and innovative thinking, through the learning process
Working across subject boundaries: Actively promoting interdisciplinary learning through projects across Music, Art and Drama by making explicit connections between the arts, culture, health, and practical life skills. We also take every opportunity to create links with industry, culture, HE, FE and communities through workshops, volunteering, training and showcase events and public performances. Doing so creates a wider context for pupils to learn and develop.
Our subject pathways offer a varied curricular choice that embraces practical and digital learning. We regularly evaluate our provision in response to pupils' views, professional research and feedback from other stakeholders to ensure that our provision meets the needs of our learners and to ensure that pupils build their skills, confidence and self belief through their learning. learners as viewed as co-creators of the learning and teaching experience by shaping learning targets and exercising specialisation and choice
Through our curriculum we:
Support progression from Broad General Education into Senior Phase, with pathways into SQA courses such as Art & Design, Music & Music Technology, Practical Cookery & Cake craft, Photography and Health & Food Technology. Celebrate Scotland’s diverse cultural identity while fostering respect for global cultures and creative traditions in the arts. Prepare learners for future careers, highlighting the value of creativity across the creative industries, hospitality, wellbeing services, and wider workplaces.
